Bruce Francis Lyons

Bruce Francis Lyons of Sturgis, SD died on May 20, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 93 years old.

He was born in Fairmont MN to Hazel and Deward Lyons on April 20, 1932. After high school he attended advanced schooling for dental laboratory.  He worked for labs in the Minnesota and Sioux Falls SD area.

He was an avid hunter and sportsman, Bruce fell in love with the Black Hills during a Wyoming antelope trip, he moved to the Black Hills in the 1970s. He later established his own dental lab in Deadwood SD.

He was introduced to his wife Kathie through their mutual friend Rhea Trevino, they were married in 1991 and enjoyed 34 wonderful years together. Bruce enjoyed a long happy life, despite many health complications.

Bruce was a true “renaissance man”, he painted and sketched portraits and landscapes. He was a talented woodworker, his woodworking projects include long bows made from trees he harvested, cedar strip canoes, and small figurines.  He made handmade knives from old files, leather holsters, bags, canvas tents, and teepees.  He enjoyed participating in muzzleloading, as well as an early Black Hills rendezvous group. He also loved riding his 84 Harley-Davidson Shovelhead.

Bruce was preceded in death by his mother Hazel Lyons, his father Deward Lyons, his sister Nannette Brown, his nephews Mike Brown, Kevin Brown, Corey Brown, and Kelly Jansick.

He will be missed, remembered, and celebrated by his wife Kathie, his sister Margo, and Larry Jansick of Phoenix AZ., his nephew Steve Jansick of Phoenix AZ., his niece Jessica Karapelou of Phoenix AZ., his nephews Robert, and Linda Brown of Oklahoma, Jim and Alicia Brown of South Carolina, and many grand-nieces and nephews
