RAPID CITY, SD — The annual She’s Gonna Bolt 5K is lacing up for another powerful year, bringing together the Rapid City community in a heartfelt effort to raise awareness and support for those impacted by dementia and Alzheimer’s in the Black Hills.

Set for Saturday, June 7, the event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., guiding participants along a scenic route from Founders Park to Sioux Park and back. Organized in partnership with Sequel, this year’s event continues to shine a light on the emotional and practical challenges faced by families living with dementia.

At the heart of the event is Carla Malik, a cherished member of the Rapid City community whose journey with dementia has inspired many. The 5K serves as a tribute to Carla’s strength and to others navigating similar paths.

“This event is a celebration of community, compassion, and the unwavering support we can give to those affected by dementia,” said Cody Malik, event organizer. “We are honored to continue our partnership with Sequel as we walk, run, and rally around this cause.”

Proceeds from She’s Gonna Bolt go directly toward local healthcare advocacy initiatives, helping improve care and resources for dementia patients and their loved ones in the region.

Whether you’re racing for a personal best or walking in quiet solidarity, every step taken helps make a difference. Everyone is welcome—runners, walkers, families, and supporters alike.
