SUMMERSET, S.D. — A high-speed pursuit ended in an arrest Saturday afternoon after a driver fled from a traffic stop near Elk Creek Road and Sturgis Road.
According to the Summerset Police Department, an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle after discovering the driver had a suspended license and an active warrant. As the officer approached, the driver took off southbound on Sturgis Road, leading authorities on a chase that continued westbound on Interstate 90.
The pursuit came to an end at Sacora Station, where the driver—identified as 18-year-old John Perez of Piedmont—was taken into custody without further incident.
Perez now faces multiple charges, including aggravated eluding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, failure to surrender a driver’s license, passing in a no-passing zone, failure to use a seatbelt, and resisting arrest.
Summerset Police thanked the Meade County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance. Authorities remind the public that Perez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
