Scoopers Ride Hot Bats to Win Over RCC

RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Scooper baseball team pounded out eight hits and used error-free defense to defeat the Rapid City Central Cobblers on Saturday at McKeague Field.

Sturgis plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning after Cobbler pitcher Steven Solano walked three Scoopers, loading the bases. Carter Williams then singled, scoring Brody Royer and Jace Thurman. Jeren Andrzejewski cracked a single, scoring pinch runner Bridger Massa-Battin and Williams moved to third, then scored on a groundout by Carson Williams.

The Scoopers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Devin Ross singled, scoring one run, Brody Royer drew a walk, scoring one run, and Battin singled, scoring two runs.

Royer earned the win for Sturgis, surrendering two hits and one run over two and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Andrzejewski collected the save.

Battin and Williams were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Sturgis Brown Varsity Scoopers. Williams went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Sturgis Brown Varsity Scoopers in hits. Royer led Sturgis Brown Varsity Scoopers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Royer, Williams, and Talen Koontz each stole multiple bases for Sturgis Brown Varsity Scoopers. Sturgis Brown Varsity Scoopers stole 10 bases in the game. Sturgis Brown Varsity Scoopers were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. George Hamer had the most chances in the field with 10.

Rapid City Central Varsity Cobblers accumulated nine hits in the game. Ben Farnsworth went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Rapid City Central Varsity Cobblers in hits. Tyler Hennstein collected two hits for Rapid City Central Varsity Cobblers in four at bats. Hennstein stole two bases. Rapid City Central Varsity Cobblers ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game.
