Mitchell Kernels Sweep Scooper Baseball Team

MITCHELL, SD – The Sturgis Scoopers headed east to take on Mitchell in a baseball doubleheader on Saturday, losing both games to the Kernels, 7-0 in the opener and 15-0 in game two.

Mason Herman earned the pitching win for Mitchell in game one, giving up five hits and striking out four over five innings of work. Tate Johnson took the loss for Sturgis, giving up six hits and seven runs over 4 1/3 innings.

Carter Williams led the Scoopers at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Mitchell had six hits in the game, with Hudson Borgan and Jaxson Hartman collecting two hits each.

The Kernels scored early and often in game two, plating one run in the first, eight runs in the second and six more in the third to end the game by the mercy rule, 15-0 in three innings.

Gavin Jones got the pitching win for Mitchell, giving up just one hit and striking out three over three innings. Carson Williams took the loss for the Scoopers.

The Kernels pounded out 10 hits and were led again b Hudson Borgan with two hits and two RBIs. Sturgis could only manage one hit, a single by Elijah Stroud in the top of the third inning.

Sturgis (3-10) is in action next on Monday night at McKeague Field in Rapid City, as the Scoopers take on the Douglas Patriots. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
