Rapid City man pleads no contest to aggravated child abuse

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has pleaded no contest to aggravated child abuse in a court hearing this week.

Dante Baker, 18, reportedly stole a vehicle with a six-year-old child inside and led police n a high speed chase.

Prosecutors say Bake reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour during the chase while the young child was not wearing a seat belt in the backseat of the vehicle.

Baker was arrested after crashing the car. Prosecutors say he had a blood alcohol level of .21.

As part of his plea deal, prosecutors dropped other charges against him.

Baker’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 1. He could spend up to 15 years behind bars.
