STURGIS, S.D. — The Sturgis Scoopers are thrilled to announce Aaron Noteboom as the new head coach of the boys basketball program. A native of Corsica, South Dakota, Noteboom brings extensive experience and a proven track record of success to the Scoopers.

Noteboom is a graduate of South Dakota State University and began his coaching career as a junior varsity coach at Kadoka Area High School, where he spent three seasons. He then took on the head coaching position at Hot Springs High School, where he served for 13 years. During his tenure at Hot Springs, Noteboom established a winning culture, achieving an impressive 155-116 record—the most wins in the program’s history.

Under his leadership, the Hot Springs team accomplished significant milestones, including five appearances in the SoDak 16 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024) and two Class A State Tournament berths (2019 and 2023). Notably, in 2019, his team became the first Hot Springs squad to qualify for the South Dakota Boys Basketball State Tournament since 1945. In recognition of his achievements, Noteboom was named Region 8 Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association in 2023.

“We are excited about Aaron’s passion, his success in building and sustaining strong programs, and his vision for the future of Scooper basketball,” said Jade Temple, Activities Director at Sturgis Brown High School. “He brings the kind of leadership and energy that will have a positive and lasting impact on our student-athletes and our community.”

Noteboom is eager to bring his passion and leadership to the Sturgis program. “I’m incredibly honored to be chosen as the next head coach of the Scoopers basketball program,” Noteboom stated. “Sturgis is a special community, and after meeting with the district leadership, it feels like the perfect fit for both my wife, Jessica, and our children, Pete, Jack, and Emersyn. My focus will be on creating a culture where hard work, accountability, and a team-first mentality drive everything we do. I can’t wait to get started with our student-athletes and help them grow not just as players, but as individuals.”

The Sturgis Scoopers look forward to welcoming Coach Noteboom and are excited about the program’s future under his leadership.
