11 of 13 Pennington County Businesses Pass Alcohol Compliance

Pennington County, SD – The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office conducted compliance checks of county alcohol establishments, April 7, 2025. A total of 13 businesses were checked. Two businesses were in violation for selling alcohol to an underage informant.

The following businesses were in compliance:

– The Gaslight (13490 Main St., Rockerville)

– Rockerville Lodge & Cabins (13525 Main St., Rockerville)

– Ramada Mt. Rushmore (115 Swanzey St., Keystone)

– Dollar General Store (681 Main St., Hill City)

– Heart of the West Conoco (632 Main St., Hill City)

– Tin City Saloon (240 Main St., Hill City)

– Hill City Cafe (209 Main St., Hill City)

– Alpine Inn (133 Main St., Hill City)

– Heart of the Hills Convenience Store (101 Main St., Hill City)

– Krull’s Market (531 E Main St., Hill City)

– Country Store @ Three Forks (23820 Highway 385)

The following establishments failed compliance:

– BJ’s Country Store (13620 S Highway 16)

– Mexico Tipico (23021 Hisega Rd.)

At these businesses, informants were sold or served alcohol without providing identification to the employee. Furnishing alcohol to a minor is a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by 30 days in jail and/or a $500 fine. A business could have a $1,000 fine for a first offense and $2,000 fine for a second offense. A third offense can result in the loss of a liquor and/or business license.
