Event organizers hope proceeds make big impact on $147,000 negative balance

RAPID CITY, SD—The Rapid City Youth City Council and the Rapid City Public School Foundation are hosting the second annual Art Auction, Saturday, April 26 from 1-3 p.m. at the Rapid City Alternative Academy Commons, 601 Columbus Street. All profits from the art auction will be donated and applied to relieving student lunch debt in the Rapid City Area School District, which currently stands at $147,000.

Dozens of art pieces are being collected for the auction. Deadline to donate art is next Tuesday, April 22. The event will also include student entertainment.

Last year’s inaugural event offered up approximately 60 art pieces for auction with proceeds directed to the school lunch debt.

“We are hoping to build on last year’s successful art auction event and again making a great impact on the negative school lunch balance,” said Emma O’Loughlin, Youth Council member and event organizer. “It should be a fun afternoon with a lot of great art pieces to view and bid on, knowing proceeds are going to an important cause.”
