SAN DIEGO (AP) — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck near Julian, California, around 10:08 a.m. Monday, shaking San Diego and surrounding areas, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
No injuries or major damage were reported, according to city officials and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Gov. Gavin Newsom was briefed on the situation, and aftershocks were recorded.
Emergency alerts from USGS gave residents up to 15 seconds’ warning. “Drop, cover, hold on,” the alert read.
San Diego resident Kevin Manaugh said the quake was the strongest he’s felt. “It shook a lot,” he said. “It made me think it’s probably a good idea to have an evacuation bag.”
No tsunami threat was issued, according to the National Weather Service.
