Fire crews battle small wildfires over the weekend

STURGIS, S.D. – Area fire crews battled a handful of small wildfires over the weekend.

The largest fire burned 5 acres south of Sundance, Wyoming. The Burn Pile #3 fire was reported Sunday just before 4:30.

Federal and local resources responded to the blaze, which occurred on private land in Crook County. The fire was contained by 7:00 p.m. Sunday night.

On Saturday, the Ditch Fire was reported a mile north of Spearish at 7:27 p.m. Federal, State and Local resources responded to the blaze, which burned 2 acres before being controlled. The human caused fire was on private land in Lawrence County.

Earlier Saturday, the Falling Rock Fire was reported 3 miles southeast of Johnson Siding in Pennington County.

Federal and Local resources responded to the human caused blaze and quickly knocked it down at a tenth of an acre.
