Athletes shine at Queen City Classic

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Over 30 schools participated in the annual Queen City Track and Field meet Friday in Spearfish.

Custer’s Kincade Lehman dominated in the long jump for the boys, taking first with a leap of 22’5.25″.

It was also a big day for Bennett County’s Rush O’Neill, who won the high jump with a 6’10”. That’s not only the top jump in the state this year, but the 10th best in the country.

On the girls’ end, Avery Marler set a Sturgis school record with a long jump of 18’4.25″. She also won the 400m dash with a time of 56.68.

Ava Holzwarth from RC Stevens was the winner in the long jump and continues to pace the state in the event. She won on Friday by seven inches, jumping 18’11.25″.

The Raiders also won the javelin throw thanks to Brienna Brewer, who took first with a throw of 118’9″.

RC Stevens took the overall girls title by three points over Thunder Basin, with a score of 124.5. But the Bolts were the top boys’ team at 143 points, edging RC Stevens, who finished with 138.5.

Also for Sturgis, the girls won the 4×400 meter relay
