STURGIS, S.D. – Fire crews from several agencies are battling a reported structure fire between Sturgis and Whitewood Saturday afternoon.
Thick, black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles as fire crews rushed to the scene.
The structure is reported to be a shop off the Whitewood Service road, just inside Lawrence County.
Law enforcement did have the service road in the area of the fire shut down for fire crews. Interstate 90 remained open.
Fire crews are battling weather conditions, with hot, dry and windy weather, working to keep it from spreading into nearby vegetation.
Residents are being encouraged to stay out of the area so fire crews could have easier access to the fire.
