James “Jimmer” Lewis

James “Jimmer” Lewis passed away at his home in Rapid City, South Dakota on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 after a courageous battle with liver cancer.

Jimmer was born in Huron, South Dakota on May 22, 1959 and grew up in Rapid City attending Douglas School District from kindergarten through high school graduating in 1977. Jimmer married Lisa Herrera in 1979 and together they had one son, Randy. Jimmer and Lisa later divorced. In 2013, Jimmer married Sheila Horn; they later divorced, but remained close.

Jimmer spent many years driving truck until 1986 when he took up carpentry where he found his passion. Jimmer worked as a general contractor in Rapid City and the Black Hills, settling for nothing less than perfection in his work. The only thing that brought him more pride than his work was the pride he had for his son.

Jimmer enjoyed rock music, Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing, and playing cribbage. Jimmer was a friend to many, made friends wherever he went, and loved to visit.

Jimmer is survived by his son, Randy (Cassie) Lewis of Gillette, Wyoming, three grandchildren, Alexia, Averyanna, and Gecovey, siblings Steve Lewis, Scott Lewis, Pam Ricard, and Robert “Bob” Lewis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Marvel Wilson, stepfather, Don Wilson, father, Merrill Lewis, and brother Albert “Bert” Lewis.

A celebration of life will be held at the Moose Lodge in Rapid City, South Dakota on May 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
