Municipal election results from Tuesday, April 8

UNDATED – Tuesday was municipal election day across several Black Hills area towns and communities.

In Spearfish, there were races for mayor and three city wards.

Incumbent mayor John Senden defeated challenger Micah Ware with a vote of 1040 to 711.

Dean Myers won the ward one city council seat with 252 votes with Marty Clark and Raeann Mettler receiving 188 votes and 131 votes respectively.

In ward two, Larry Klarenbeek won with 284 votes to opponent Victoria Jewell Greenlee’s 223.

Ana Rath defeated Michaela Madrid for the ward three council seat with a vote of 381 to 248.

In Faith, there was a race for Mayor, where incumbent Glen Haines was defeated by Levi Haefner. The vote was 85 for Haefner and 59 for Haines.

Belle Fourche saw races in two city wards. Kristal Steeves won a ward one seat with 31 votes, defeating Karen Davis’s 25 votes and Ivy Zimmerschied’s 18 votes. In ward two, incumbent councilor Clark Sowers lost his seat to challenger Lee Capp with a 108 to 73 vote.

Shelbi Bulat won Whitewood’s ward one council seat over Randy Wiege with a vote of 25-18. Ward two saw a close race with Raymond Huseby defeating Monica Burke 14 to 13. A recount is likely there.

Lead and Deadwood each elected mayors Tuesday. In Lead, Dustin Heupel defeated Eddie Munoz with a tally of 286 votes to 255 votes. Charlie Struble-Mook won Deadwood’s mayoral race 306 to 88 over Blake Joseph.

In the race for Lead-Deadwood School Board, Amber Vogt and Tim Madsen won seats, receiving 316 and 285 votes respectively. Robin Lucero received 270 votes.

In New Underwood, Casey Carmichael received 75 votes and Joe Kuhlman received 70 votes to earn seats on the school board. David Flint received 52 votes.

Edgemont’s mayoral race saw Rheta Colding Reagan defeating Carla Schepler 135 votes to 98 votes.
