APRIL 21-25, Community Cleanup Day is April 26

RAPID CITY, SD — Volunteer teams are needed for Rapid City’s 54th annual City-Wide Cleanup Week, scheduled for April 21-25 with Community Cleanup Day slated for Saturday, April 26.

The City’s Solid Waste Division is seeking volunteers and teams to participate in the community cleanup, encouraging businesses, organizations and neighbors to team up during the week – removing debris and garbage from Rapid Creek, ditches, parks, neighborhoods and along fence lines.  Each year, between 1,500 and 2,000 volunteers are recruited and the collective effort pulls out tons of trash each year.

“It’s a great community service project for groups, especially youth groups and teams,” said Ria Hannon, City Solid Waste Outreach coordinator.  “It’s also a great opportunity for getting groups and teams from businesses and organizations together to spend a few hours during the week or on a Saturday morning cleaning up an area of town. It’s a great way to help clean up our community.”

The City will provide trash bags and interested groups are encouraged to email Hannon at ria.hannon@rcgov.org to determine available spaces. Teams will collect trash and items and leave them curbside at their respective cleanup areas for collection
