Candidates Finalized for June 3 City Council Election

RAPID CITY, SD—The field of candidates for the June 3 Rapid City municipal election is set. Candidates had until 5 p.m. today (Tuesday) to file petitions for this year’s municipal election. One Council position is up in each of the City’s five wards.

Only one candidate filed petitions to run for Rapid City Council in two of the city’s five wards. Facing no opposition, Bill Evans (ward two) and Greg Strommen (ward three) will represent their respective wards for three-year terms when the new City Council is sworn in Tuesday, July 7.

There will be contested races in wards one, four and five.

In Ward one, Stephen Tamang and Lawrence ‘Larry’ Adams will vie for the open Council seat being vacated by incumbent Jesse Ham. In Ward four, incumbent Lance Lehmann will face a challenge from Eltina Three Stars.  In Ward five, incumbent Pat Roseland will be challenged by Callie Meyer.

Prospective candidates could circulate petitions March 1-25 and needed 50 validated, registered voter signatures from their respective ward to qualify to run for Council.

The deadline for voter registration is May 19. Absentee voting also begins May 19, available Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the Pennington County Auditor’s Office, 130 Kansas City Street. Early voting ends at 6 p.m. Monday, June 2.
