RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City police arrested two drivers for DUI in separate incidents on Saturday, March 22.

The first arrest happened around 4:05 a.m., when officers saw a red SUV driving the wrong way on Saint Joseph Street near 1st Street. Police followed the vehicle as it continued south on 5th Street before pulling it over near Columbus Street. The driver, 25-year-old Skeet Grass Rope of Rapid City, smelled strongly of alcohol, and officers found open alcohol containers in the vehicle. After a DUI investigation, police determined he was too impaired to drive. He was arrested and taken to the Pennington County Jail on charges of DUI, Wrong Way Travel on a One-Way Street, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, and No Proof of Insurance.

The second arrest happened later that day at 3:45 p.m., when police were called about a Toyota Sequoia swerving near Sheridan Lake Road and Harney Drive. A short time later, another caller reported the vehicle had crashed into a tree near Dunsmore Road and Kerry Drive. When officers arrived, they found the driver, 35-year-old Daniel Pelczarski of Rapid City, stumbling and slurring his speech. A breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was nearly four times the legal limit. He was arrested for DUI and Careless Driving and taken to the Pennington County Jail.
