RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City authorities are searching for a suspect involved in an assault with a weapon after a firearm was brandished at a store employee on March 18.

Around 8 p.m. on March 18, Rapid City Police responded to a Common Cents gas station at 2640 Mount Rushmore Road for a reported robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke with an employee who said that two males had entered the store. As one of the individuals exited, he pulled out a weapon and pointed it at the clerk before leaving in a blue minivan with temporary plates. No items were taken, and police later determined that the incident was not an attempted robbery.

The next morning, around 7:05 a.m. on March 19, police were called to another Common Cents station, this one at 1909 N. Lacrosse Street, after the suspect vehicle was spotted in a parking lot. Officers stopped the van and spoke with its two occupants, but determined neither was the suspect involved in the incident.

Police are now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect. He is described as a Native American male wearing a navy blue jacket, white undershirt, white shoes, and a black and white balaclava.
