Mary Anne Hoffmann

Mary Anne Hoffmann entered this world on July 1,1932, in her grandparents’ home near Opal, South Dakota. She was the second of seven children born to John and Gertrude (Moelter) Hoffmann. Mary Anne attended Faith School, graduating in 1950. In 1951, she attended Black Hills Teachers College at Spearfish SD. She taught one year of school in rural Meade County. After getting married she continued as a substitute teacher. Mary Anne also worked for Dr. White in Faith for several years.

Mary Anne married the love of her life, Glenn Palmer, on January 26,1952 at the Meade County Courthouse, with his brother, Dave and her sister, Delores, as witnesses to the union. Glenn and MaryAnne enjoyed playing cards and going to various dances in the community. Glenn and Mary Anne were blessed with five children, Glenda (December 1952), John (February 1956), Mary (December 1956), Jarvis (April 1959) and Noma (March 1963).  After working various jobs as ranch hands, they purchased their ranch west of Faith in 1966. Running milk cows, beef cattle and pigs kept them busy until Glenn’s health declined.  After Glenn’s passing in June 1979, Mary Anne continued to ranch with the help of her son Jarvis and daughter in law Marilyn and held down various jobs in town. When giving up her jobs in town, she volunteered for many, many hours at the Faith Community Action Team. She was always sorting clothes, helping with rummage sales and fundraisers to keep the hall going until her health declined. Mary Anne joined the love of her life on January 29th, 2025.

Mary Anne is survived by sisters, Delores Fair (Gordon, Nebraska) and Myrna Collins (Faith, SD); sisters-in-law, Darliene Keffeler (Sturgis, SD), Pat Hoffmann (Lusk, Wyoming); brother-in-law, Gordon Speakman (Milton Freewater, Oregon); daughter, Glenda (Mickey) McGinnis; son, Jarvis (Marilyn) Palmer; daughter, Noma (Dennis) Welter all of Faith SD; grandkids, Heather (Mickey) Kirkley, Rebecca (Steve) Anderson, MaKayla (Jesse) Komes, Amanda (Travis) Few, Megan Palmer, Ryan (Erica) Palmer, Glenn Palmer, Skyler (Jaci) Welter, and Penny (Eric) Androff; and numerous great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
