RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police say a juvenile male was detained after allegedly firing multiple shots at a group of people in a drive-by shooting on the night of March 4.

Rapid City Police were dispatched at 8:15 p.m. to Scheels after receiving reports that a group of individuals had been shot at from a passing vehicle. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the group, who stated they were walking through the parking lot when a familiar vehicle drove past. The male driver—whom they also recognized—fired four shots toward them before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Investigators identified the suspect vehicle and linked it to an address in Box Elder. A short time later, officers from the Box Elder Police Department located the vehicle and the juvenile suspect, who was taken into custody. Detectives from RCPD transported him to the Public Safety Building for questioning. Following the interview, the suspect was placed in the juvenile justice system.

The RCPD expressed gratitude to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Box Elder Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
