Young Sik Kim

Young Sik Kim, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, left this world peacefully due to natural causes on February 15, 2025, at the age of 61, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Born on June 12, 1963, in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Young’s early years were filled with the rich culture and traditions of his homeland.

Young’s educational journey began in his hometown, where he graduated from Pochun High School. He carried his passion for learning to Seoul University, graduating with honors and setting the stage for a future filled with ambition and accomplishment. Young’s professional life was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit, as he founded and ran KY Construction, dedicating 18 years to building and restoring homes, creating a legacy of shelter and comfort for many families.

He was a man of many interests, finding joy and solace in the beauty of nature. Hiking, biking, camping, fishing, and swimming in the mountains were among his favorite activities, pursuits that reflected his deep appreciation for the great outdoors. Young’s love for music, particularly his enthusiasm for Elvis Presley, was well-known, and his spirited karaoke performances were a source of joy for all who had the pleasure of witnessing them.

Above all, Young was a family man. He is survived by his loving spouse, Yun Sun Hong, and their four children: Joseph, Joshua, Jennifer, and Jana Kim. His four brothers and a sister will remember him fondly, as will the countless lives he touched with his wisdom, creativity, and loving nature.

Those who knew Young would describe him as a wise man, whose advice was always sought and cherished. His creative spirit shone through in everything he did, from his professional work to his personal hobbies. But perhaps the attribute that will be most remembered is his loving nature, a quality that made him a beacon of warmth and affection in the lives of his family and friends.

As we reflect on Young’s life, we are reminded of a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Young Sik Kim embodied this sentiment, leaving behind a legacy of eased burdens and shared joy.

Young’s life was one of purpose and passion, of dedication to his loved ones, and of a deep commitment to leaving the world better than he found it. We take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
