Police searching for discarded firearm believed used in homicide

RAPID CITY, S.D. – As the Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) continue their investigation into the February 23rd shooting, authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a discarded firearm believed to have been used in the incident.

Investigators have determined that the suspect, a female located approximately 90 minutes after the shooting in the 300 block of E. North Street, likely discarded the weapon after fleeing the residence at 815 E. New York Street.

Law enforcement is asking residents and businesses in the affected area to review any external security footage for suspicious activity between 8:55 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on February 23. The map can be seen below.

Authorities also urge the public to check their properties for any discarded firearm.

If a weapon is located, do not handle it. Call law enforcement immediately.
