Elon Musk Pushes for Government Efficiency with Employee Accountability Initiative

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal agencies are responding to a new accountability measure introduced by Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency. Over the weekend, the Office of Personnel Management sent a mass email requesting federal employees to submit five bullet points summarizing their work from the past week. While agencies such as the Pentagon, FBI, State Department, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Energy have advised employees not to respond, the email itself does not specify any penalties. However, Musk emphasized in a social media post that employees who fail to submit their reports by 11:59 p.m. ET today would be dismissed.

The initiative aims to increase transparency and efficiency within the federal government, aligning with Musk’s broader vision of streamlining operations and improving accountability in public service.

The biggest takeaways from Germany’s election, which will bring change to the EU’s leading power

BERLIN (AP) — Germany faces its second change of leader in less than four years after the head of the center-right opposition won Sunday’s election. The vote saw a surge for a far-right party and a stinging defeat for outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz. After the collapse of Scholz’s three-party government in November, it’s now up to Friedrich Merz to restore stability to Germany. His most realistic option is to form a coalition with Scholz’s Social Democrats. The two parties were Germany’s post-World War II heavyweights. But their combined showing Sunday was their weakest since the postwar republic was founded. Meanwhile, while the far-right Alternative for Germany made the biggest gains, the Left Party made the most unexpected.
