Rhoden addresses Legislature; says Lt. Gov pick coming Wednesday

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden addressed state lawmakers in Pierre Tuesday, a day after taking the oath of office.

Rhoden replaces Kristi Noem, who was appointed as the new Director of Homeland Security.

Rhoden says he will announce his selected of Lt. Governor at a press conference tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. MT/10:00 a.m. CT.

Rhoden previewed what he is looking for in his Lt. Governor selection.

Rhoden, from Union Center, spoke today on his humble beginnings in Meade County, from his time as a School Board member to coaching women’s softball and boys basketball.

He told lawmakers he’s working with “my Cabinet, my staff, and some legislators on policies to make South Dakota strong, safe, and free.”

Rhoden said he would be announcing some of those items in the coming days.

Two topics he touched on affect either side of the state – property taxes and eminent domain. Both issues are among the hot topics at this year’s Legislature.
