Back home in Maryland, Kilmar Abrego Garcia faces deportation again as he reports to ICE office

Kilmar Abrego Garcia faces deportation to Uganda after checking in with immigration officials on Monday in Baltimore. The Trump administration requires this as part of an effort to deport the El Salvador national, who was released from jail in Tennessee last week. Immigration officials plan to deport him to Uganda, which has agreed to accept certain deportees from the United States. Abrego Garcia declined a plea deal to be removed to Costa Rica. His case has become a flashpoint in President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda after he was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March. He has pleaded not guilty to human smuggling charges.

Novak Djokovic thinks he came up with a way to get Serena Williams back on the tennis tour: Dare her to do it. A night after Williams stunned the tennis world by showing up to help induct rival Maria Sharapova into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Djokovic said Sunday after his first-round match at the U.S. Open that he thought that was “a beautiful moment.” Then Djokovic noted that Williams never officially retired from tennis and challenged her to return. He says that “when somebody challenges her, she never refuses. So I challenge Serena: Come back on the tour next year.”

Tommy Fleetwood wins Tour Championship for first PGA Tour title and FedEx Cup

Tommy Fleetwood ends a summer of heartache with the richest prize on the PGA Tour. He won the Tour Championship for his first tour title to capture the FedEx Cup and its $10 million reward. Fleetwood got plenty of help at the start when Patrick Cantlay began bogey-double bogey and could never catch up. Scottie Scheffler hit his opening tee shot out-of-bounds and still was a threat until a tee shot into the water ended his hopes on the 15th. Fleetwood shot 68 and won by three over Cantlay and Russell Henley. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley tied for seventh.

Raleigh’s record-breaking home run also marked his ninth multi-home run game of the season, passing Mickey Mantle (eight for the 1961 New York Yankees) for most multi-home run games by a switch-hitter in a season in major league history. The overall record is 11 multi-home run games in a season.  The switch-hitting Raleigh, batting from the right side, homered off Athletics left-handed starter Jacob Lopez in the first inning to make it 2-0 and tie Perez. In the second inning, Raleigh drilled a changeup from Lopez 412 feet.

‘No magic fixes’ for Democrats as party confronts internal and fundraising struggles

Ken Martin, the new chair of the Democratic National Committee, says he’s bringing a bazooka to the fight against President Donald Trump and his Republican allies. But as hundreds of Democratic officials gather in Martin’s Minneapolis hometown on Monday for the first official meeting of the Democratic National Committee under his leadership, there’s a sense Martin may need more than that to turn things around. Big donors aren’t writing checks. The party’s message is murky. Parts of the Democratic base have drifted away. And there’s deep frustration that the Democratic Party is not doing enough to stop Trump. DNC officials hope to start getting things back on track at the meeting.

Shilo Sanders waived by the Buccaneers, AP source says

Shilo Sanders was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, less than 24 hours after he was ejected from a game for throwing a punch, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team hasn’t announced its cuts. He was also penalized for pass interference earlier in Tampa Bay’s 23-19 loss to Buffalo. The Buccaneers could still add Sanders to the practice squad if he doesn’t get claimed off waivers by another team.

Great white sharks are going north. Here’s what the numbers say

New data shows that great white sharks are spending more time in the chilly waters off New England and Atlantic Canada. That means boaters, beachgoers and fishermen who spend time in the northern waters are learning to live with the sharks made famous 50 years ago by the movie Jaws. Sightings of the apex predators are up in places like Maine, where they were once very rarely spotted. Scientists link the white shark sightings to increased availability of the seals the sharks feast on, and say beachgoers are generally very safe from shark bites.
