Elon Musk renews his criticism of Trump’s big bill as Senate Republicans scramble to pass it

Elon Musk is doubling down on his distaste for President Donald Trump’s sprawling tax and spending cuts bill. In a social media post on Saturday, Musk argued the legislation that Republican senators are scrambling to pass would kill jobs and bog down burgeoning industries. Ahead of a procedural Senate vote Saturday to open debate on the nearly 1,000-page bill, Musk wrote that it would “cause immense strategic harm to our country.” The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, whose birthday is also Saturday, later posted that the bill would be “political suicide for the Republican Party.” The criticisms reopen a recent fiery conflict between the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency and the administration he recently left.

Harrington teed off into a thicket of trees in the first round, and after about a dozen people unsuccessfully searched for the allowed three minutes, Harrington went back to the tee box for his third shot. Harrington is seen in the video telling Maltbie that, as a former pro he should understand that it’s bad etiquette not to help someone search for their ball. Maltbie argued that he was being asked to deliver a report for TV on what was happening on the hole.

US soccer great Tobin Heath hoping Club World Cup spurs more growth for game at home

Tobin Heath might know something about what makes soccer resonate within the U.S. Her resume, in part: She won NCAA titles in college at North Carolina, then went on to win two Olympic gold medals with the U.S. women’s national team and two World Cup titles as well, all coming after she was inspired by the 1999 Women’s World Cup. And so far, she thinks the Club World Cup could have a similar effect. Heath says “I know the power of these home competitions. … I know the power of these games in our country, to change the landscape of this game in our country.”

Sam Bennett says he’s staying in Florida with hopes Panthers turn into a dynasty

Sam Bennett could have gone to free agency and picked his landing spot, plus probably could have signed for much more money than the Florida Panthers were able to offer. Instead, he chose winning. Bennett, the reigning Conn Smythe Award winner as playoff MVP of Florida’s most recent run to the Stanley Cup, spoke out Saturday about his decision to sign an eight-year, $64 million deal with the Panthers. His reasoning was actually quite simple.

Chief Justice Roberts warns against heated political words about judges

Chief Justice John Roberts is warning that elected officials’ heated words about judges can lead to threats or acts of violence by others. Roberts’ comments Saturday at a judicial conference come at a time when threats against judges are on the rise. Roberts didn’t identify anyone by name. But he was clearly referring to Republican President Donald Trump and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer when he said he’s felt compelled to issue public rebukes of figures in both parties in recent years. Roberts said the danger is that people might pick up on such criticism. He cited “serious threats of violence and murder of judges just simply for doing their work.”

Democrats wrestle with how to conduct oversight as Trump officials crack down

Congressional Democrats are grappling with how to conduct oversight of the Trump administration after some colleagues were arrested and face charges for attempting to observe the administration’s conduct. Lawmakers have increasingly reached out to researchers, local activists, lawmakers and business leaders to gain insights into the administration’s actions. But Democrats concede that they have little ability to compel information from the Trump administration without gaining more power in Congress. Congressional Republicans have largely dismissed Democrats’ behavior as inflammatory and inappropriate.
