FAITH, SD – From a carnival midway to plenty of arena action, there is a full slate of activities planned for the 115th Faith Stock Show and Rodeo that opens today.

Running August 6-10, 2024, Stock Show swings open the gates Wednesday, August 6th with a the high school saddle bronc competition “Bucking For Pedro” followed by the PRCA Faith Match Bronc Ride beginning at 7:00p.m. World champions are on the roster for the popular event that is the last in the PRCA series before heading into the Xtreme Broncs finals later this month.

Long-time stock show secretary Gnene Fordyce says Faith is the place to be for those looking for the fun of a carnival midway and the action of a PRCA event.

“This is our 14th year for the matched bronc ride,” said Fordyce. “Our bronc ride was where everything started.  Now a days, a lot of places have of stand-alone bronc rides in the PRCA but Faith’s was the first one.

At this year’s Faith Match Bronc Ride will be rodeo athletes currently leading in the PRCA saddle bronc standings including Ryder Wright, Damian Brennan, Sage Newman, Kade Bruno, Statler Wright, Weston Patterson, Brody Wells, and Statler Wright.

“This event is at the top of the list for these professional cowboys who are looking for a berth to the PRCA Xtreme Bronc Match Finals held later in August as well as the PRCA National Finals in December,” says event producer Rory Lemmel.

As stand-alone bronc matches go, the one in Faith is a barn-burner and the final one where cowboys can earn points towards the PRCA Xtreme Broncs Finals held later in August.

“You don’t have to travel to Vegas to see the best of the best,” says Lemmel. “They’re right, in Faith, S.D. for this elite Match Bronc Ride.”

Team ropers from multiple states also head to Faith, S.D., for timed-event competitions set for Thursday, August 7th.  Like most things with the “Biggest Party on the Prairie,” the roping events have expanded over the years.

Marking the 115th year of the Faith Stock Show & Rodeo, the U.S. Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard will be presenting colors in the prairie community throughout stock show week. The Guard, that hails from California, is the last remaining Mounted Color Guard in the Marine Corps.

Exhibits open to the public on Friday, August 8th. Rodeo queens will be competing for the title, the Northshore Golf Tournament gets underway, along with the Pen of Three Livestock Show. The midway is open and the popular Ranch Rodeo and Ranch Bronc Riding begins at 6:00p.m. Just ahead of that, Mutton Busting, Wild Pony Races and Pony Bareback Riding will fill the arena with kids competing for prizes.

This year’s parade theme is “FAITHFUL to the Rodeo: 115 Years Strong!” with Parade Marshals Wade and Lorena Derflinger. It’s first showing will be Saturday, August 9th and the remainder of the day is filled with activities for the kids, from horses to bikes to the carnival – and this year, a Dinosaur Dig at the museum. There is also the Jake Schauer Memorial Tractor Pull and “A Taste of Community” Dessert Social. That evening the first round of SDRA and NRCA Rodeo gets under way at 6:30p.m., that includes a Calf Scramble and the first round of Indian Relay Races.

There’s so much action on the final day of the Faith Stock Show and Rodeo, it’s almost like they saved the best for last. There’s the Fireman’s Breakfast, Cowboy Worship, another parade, the Indian Relay Race Championship Finals and more rodeo action that includes the Old Original Wild Ride competition.
