RAPID CITY, S.D. – One woman died and two others were injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on icy roads west of Rapid City, South Dakota.
The crash occurred at 6:51 a.m. on Sheridan Lake Road near Boulder Hill Road, approximately 13 miles west of Rapid City.
Preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a 52-year-old male from Rapid City was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado westbound. While traveling down a long, icy hill, the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
A 51-year-old female passenger in the Silverado, from Lambert, Montana, sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Silverado suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities reported that neither occupant of the truck was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Jeep, a 29-year-old female from Rapid City sustained minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The names of the individuals involved have not been released pending notification of family members. The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
