RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City is experiencing a transition to wintry conditions as a powerful weather system moves through the region. Current reports show the temperature has fallen to 41 degrees, though a steady 23 mph wind from the north has dropped the wind chill to 32 degrees.
While the city currently sees light rain, the National Weather Service forecast indicates a shift to snow showers as the evening progresses. Daytime high temperatures previously reached 55 degrees, but a sharp decline to a low of 26 degrees is expected tonight.
The combination of falling temperatures and increasing winds from the northwest, expected to reach 27 mph, will likely cause visibility issues. Forecasters place the chance of snow showers tonight at 20 percent following a 61 percent chance of daytime precipitation
