Cold Weather Doesn’t Stop Holiday Cheer at the Wilson Tree Lighting Ceremony

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Dozens of residents braved cold temperatures for the 17th annual Wilson Park Tree Lighting ceremony last night in Rapid City, South Dakota. The event, which serves as the official kickoff to the holiday season in the city, featured festive characters and live entertainment.

Mayor Jason Salamun and his wife Gwyn joined the crowd for the lighting of the park’s holiday tree. Attendees were also greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus, Buddy the Elf, and the Presidential Mascots. Music for the event was provided by the Shrine of Democracy Chorus.

The Mount Rushmore Road Group hosted the annual celebration. Crews from the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department were responsible for decorating the park’s trees and gazebos with lights. Hot chocolate and cookies were served to those attending the community event.
