RAPID CITY, S.D. — The final full weekend before Christmas is packed with festive cheer, live entertainment, and creative gatherings across Rapid City. From cozy winter markets and art openings to drag performances and late-night dance parties, December 19–20 offers something for every holiday mood.

Friday, December 19

The weekend begins Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. with Rockin’ in a Winter Wonderland at Bonseye Tiny Shop. The enchanting night market features locally made apparel, art, and gifts, paired with the soulful folk stylings of Elaine Romero-Douglas. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for a cozy evening by firelight.

At 5 p.m., the Dahl Arts Center hosts the opening reception for Flyover: Visual Art Forum I in the Ruth Brennan Gallery. The exhibition brings together six longtime artist friends — Dale Lamphere, Roger Broer, Bill Fleming, Susan Turnbull, Ray Tysdal, and Kenny Putnam — who explore collaborative art-making alongside solo works. The free reception runs from 5 to 7 p.m., with the exhibit on display through February 14, 2026.

Music lovers have multiple options starting at 6 p.m.
Firehouse Wine Cellars welcomes back its annual Holiday Sip & Sing-Along, led by local pianist Nick Linn. Songbooks featuring classic and modern Christmas carols are provided, with time for audience requests.
Meanwhile, Thirsty’s hosts Jack Jensen performing a mix of classic favorites and Christmas tunes from 6 to 8 p.m.

Saturday afternoon offers family-friendly fun at Pure Coffee Hub, where a Gingerbread Men Decorating Party runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants can decorate mini gingerbread men while enjoying hot cocoa. All supplies are included with $10 admission.

Those seeking reflection and creativity can attend Winter Solstice Meditations and Intention Ornament Workshops at Mystic Palms Healing. The guided experience includes meditation and ornament crafting using herbs, crystals, and symbolic elements. Sessions are offered at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5 p.m., with space limited to four participants per session.

Saturday night turns bold and campy at Aby’s Rapid City with Dixy’s Ho-Ho-Hormonal Birthday Bash, featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race star Hormona Lisa. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 18+ event. VIP ticket holders receive early entry, premium seating, and a meet-and-greet, while general admission promises a high-energy night of drag excellence and holiday chaos.

Live music continues at Murphy’s Pub, where the Tyler Bills Trio takes the stage at 9 p.m. Expect high-energy performances, a lively crowd, and no cover charge.

The weekend wraps up back at Press Start with A Nightmare Christmas from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The 21+ event blends spooky and festive vibes, encouraging guests to dress holiday-themed, Halloween-inspired, or both. DJ CRZY Glitch returns with a twisted holiday soundtrack and $3 themed Jello shots.
