Update, 8:25am: An update, released by City Hall Public Information Officer Darrel Shoemaker:
“As an update, City officials indicate Cross Street between Omaha Street and West Main Street will be closed at 9 a.m. this morning so crews with Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern (RCP&E) Railroad can repair a broken rail at the Cross Street crossing. RCP&E officials estimate completion of repairs by 5 p.m. today, which is subject to change. Updates will be provided when available. Drivers advised to seek alternate routes today”.
RAPID CITY, SD — Cross Street between Omaha Street and West Main Street will be closed after Wednesday’s morning commute for Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern (RCP&E) Railroad crews to repair a broken rail line at the Cross Street crossing.
City officials have been advised there are no safety issues with the broken rail but crews need to close the road to repair the line. There is no time line for when repairs will be completed. A more exact time for closure of Cross Street will be provided by RCP&E officials early Wednesday morning but they have advised City officials the closure will take place after the morning commute.
Drivers who utilize Cross Street to reach their daily destinations are advised to find alternate routes. More information will be provided when available.
