LEAD, S.D. – Winter sports enthusiasts in the Rapid City area can look forward to a bright day on the slopes as Terry Peak Ski Area reports mostly sunny skies and freshly groomed conditions for Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. The resort is currently operating with a base snow depth ranging from 14 to 24 inches.

Current Mountain Conditions

Early morning temperatures at Stewart Lodge were recorded at 34 degrees Fahrenheit as of 7:00 a.m.. The forecast for the day calls for mostly sunny conditions with a chance of snow and breezy winds.

Four of the mountain’s five lifts are scheduled for operation from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.:

  • #1 Kussy Express: Open
  • #3 Surprise Express: Open
  • #4 Stewart Lift: Open
  • #5 Snow Carpet: Open
  • #2 Coeur Wharf Express: Closed

Trail Status and Terrain Park

Several popular trails are open and groomed for today’s visitors, including Stewart Slope, Welcome, Snowstorm, Surprise, and Ben Hur. The Kussy trail is also open and groomed, featuring the Large Terrain Park with a Tower Tube. Other terrain park features available today include the Small Flat Box on Stewart Slope and the Shooter Rail on Welcome.

A number of trails remain closed, including Black Moon, Missing Link, Holy Terror, and the glade areas.
