Jeremy Taylor Arrested After Multi-Day Manhunt in Western South Dakota

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. — A multi-day, multi-agency manhunt across western South Dakota ended Wednesday with the arrest of Jeremy Taylor, authorities said. Taylor was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in an outbuilding near a residence in Fall River County and was arrested without incident. He was wanted on an outstanding Ohio warrant for gross sexual contact and also faces Pennington County charges of eluding and simple assault on law enforcement. The search involved hundreds of personnel-hours and numerous agencies, including the U.S. Marshals, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Division of Criminal Investigation, Fall River County Sheriff’s Office and others. Officials credited tips from the public for helping locate Taylor. Taylor remains in custody as he awaits legal proceedings in South Dakota and Ohio. (Full Story)


South Dakota Traffic Fatalities Drop to Five Year Low in 2025

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Department of Public Safety says South Dakota recorded 110 fatal crashes resulting in 123 deaths on the state’s highways in 2025. It marks a five-year low, with a nearly 17-percent decrease in the number of fatalities from 2024. Despite the overall decline, the department says seat belt use remains a critical safety issue as does alcohol-related crashes. Officials say 59-percent of fatalities in 2025 included people who were not wearing their seat belt. And, alcohol-related fatalities were up 6-percent over 2024. The department says 35 people died in alcohol-related crashes in 2025.  


Rapid City Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Gas Station Assaults

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated assault. Mikael Fox was accused of assaulting two women in the parking lot of a gas station in July of 2025. He was detained by a gas station clerk who heard the victim’s calls for help. Seventh Circuit Court Judge Matthew Brown sentenced Fox to 30 years in prison this week. He was given the maximum 15-year sentence for each count of aggravated assault.


Rapid City Fire Department Responded to More Than 22,000 Calls in 2025

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Fire Department is saying they responded to more than 22-thousand calls last year. That’s a two-point-one percent increase compared to 2024. The majority of the calls were for medical emergencies while more than 14-hundred calls were false alarms and only 230 were for fire-related incidents. August was the department’s busiest month with the agency receiving just shy of four-thousand calls. They reported no civilian fire-related fatalities last year and only eight firefighters were injured during fire incidents. 


Rep. Phil Jensen Suspended from Republican Caucus

PIERRE, S.D. — State Representative Phil Jensen of Rapid City is serving a two-week suspension from the Republican caucus. The suspension comes after debate on the house floor over the Senate bill urging South Dakotans to “seek the Lord Most High.” Jensen said in the debate he thinks, “the only ones that are going to be voting red up there are going to be Democrats.” Speaker of the House Jon Hansen said the comment was out of order. House Minority Leader Democrat Erin Healy said Jensen’s remarks violated House rules on prohibiting personal attacks on the motives, character or faith of other members. 


The former Prince Andrew moves to King Charles III’s private estate after Epstein document uproar

LONDON (AP) — The former Prince Andrew has moved out of his longtime home on crown-owned land near Windsor Castle earlier than expected, after the latest release of documents from the U.S. investigation of Jeffrey Epstein revived questions about his friendship with the convicted sex offender. The 65-year-old brother of King Charles III is now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. He left the Royal Lodge in Windsor on Monday and now lives on the king’s Sandringham estate. That’s according to a person familiar with the matter. The move to Sandringham was announced in October when Charles stripped him of his royal titles amid revelations about links to Epstein. Nancy Guthrie disappeared from an Arizona neighborhood that is dark at night, quiet and spread out

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say the search for “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother still has no suspect or person of interest. There were signs of forced entry at Nancy Guthrie’s home in a quiet neighborhood that is dark at night. Authorities offered no detailed update Wednesday as investigators try to piece together the moments before and after Guthrie’s disappearance. Authorities believe she was taken against her will. She was last seen Saturday night. The Pima County sheriff has said she must be found soon because she could die without her medication. He suggested there was video from some cameras, though he didn’t elaborate. (Full Story)


Washington Post cuts a third of its staff in a blow to a legendary news brand

The Washington Post has laid off one-third of its staff, eliminating its sports section, several foreign bureaus and its books coverage. The widespread purge announced Wednesday is a brutal blow to journalism and one of its most legendary brands. The Post’s executive editor, Matt Murray, called the move painful but necessary to put the outlet on stronger footing and weather changes in technology and user habits. He outlined the changes in a companywide online meeting. Staff members then began getting emails with one of two subject lines — telling them their role was or was not eliminated. Rumors of layoffs had circulated for weeks. (Full Story)
