RAPID CITY, SD — The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo is adding a heavy dose of country grit and rock-and-roll soul to its 2026 concert lineup with the return of Texas-born singer-songwriter Tanner Usrey, set to perform Friday, February 6, at the Central States Fairgrounds.

Known for his powerful vocals, raw storytelling, and Southern rock edge, Usrey has built a national following by blending classic country influences with modern Americana energy. Drawing inspiration from artists like George Strait, Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Whiskey Myers, his sound has connected with fans looking for music that feels both lived-in and explosive.

Usrey first broke through with his Medicine Man EP before reaching a wider audience with his major-label debut Crossing Lines, featuring fan-favorite tracks like “Beautiful Lies” and “Take Me Home.” His music has since been featured in hit television series including Yellowstone, Landman, Special Ops: Lioness, and Fire Country, as well as the blockbuster film Twisters. Along the way, he’s lit up major festival stages at Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, ACL, and Lollapalooza, while touring alongside artists such as Koe Wetzel, Dierks Bentley, The Red Clay Strays, and Shane Smith & The Saints.

Ahead of his Rapid City appearance, Usrey said he’s excited to bring his live show to the Black Hills, even if his past Dakota memories blur together.

“I know I’ve played in North Dakota a lot — South Dakota or both,” Usrey said with a laugh. “I just woke up, so you’re just fine, man.”

Growing up in Prosper, Texas, Usrey said music found him early, long before he ever stepped on a big stage.

“I was singing Alan Jackson songs and Joe Nichols songs while my parents used to do trade shows,” he said. “They’d hand-paint gourds in the garage, and I’d just be running around in there singing.”

When asked how he describes his sound today, Usrey kept it simple.

“I always tell people Southern rock,” he said. “But I mean, it’s got some country in there too.”

That authenticity has translated into a deeply personal connection with fans. Usrey said one of the most meaningful parts of his career has been hearing how his songs impact listeners during difficult times.

“When somebody comes up and tells me that a song like ‘Josephine’ or ‘These Days’ got them through a tough time, that’s always good to hear,” he said. “A lot of times, those songs come out of my own tough times too.”

Usrey arrives at the Black Hills Stock Show riding the momentum of his latest album, These Days, produced by Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb. Despite a busy touring schedule that jumps from Colorado to Florida to South Dakota and back to Texas, Usrey says life on the road is exactly where he feels at home.

“I’m a road dog, so I like being on the road constantly,” he said. “But we’re taking a little step back next year to focus on writing.”

Opening the night is South Dakota’s own Kenny Feidler, an alt-country standout whose raw songwriting and relentless touring have earned him one of the strongest grassroots followings in the genre. With a catalog spanning more than a decade — including his 34-track Live at Buck’s album and upcoming project The Western Tragedy — Feidler brings a sound rooted deeply in the grit and heart of the modern West.

As for what Rapid City fans can expect when the lights go down on February 6, Usrey offered a simple promise.

“Just prepare for a good time,” he said. “My music has a little bit of everything for everybody. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster.”

Two artists. One unforgettable night. Tanner Usrey with Kenny Feidler performs Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Central States Fairgrounds during the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo.
