Trump announces he’s appointing Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry to serve as US special envoy to Greenland
President Donald Trump has announced he is appointing Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry to serve as the U.S. special envoy to Greenland, the vast, semi-autonomous territory of Denmark that Trump has said the U.S. needs to take over. Trump in a social media post on Sunday announcing the appointment said, “Jeff understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security.” Trump has repeatedly called for U.S. jurisdiction over Greenland, and would not rule out military force to take control of the mineral-rich, strategically located Arctic island. Landry in a post on X called the appointment an honor and said it won’t be affecting his position as governor.
