US sanctions network recruiting Colombian fighters for Sudanese paramilitary
The U.S. has imposed sanctions on four people and four firms for allegedly recruiting former Colombian military members to train soldiers for Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces. The group has been at war with the Sudanese military since April 2023 and faces accusations of war crimes. On Tuesday, the sanctions targeted a former military leader and his wife, along with staffing agencies. The U.N. reports the conflict has killed 40,000 people and displaced over 14 million, creating a severe humanitarian crisis. The U.S. government accuses the RSF of genocide in Darfur.
