The actions come as the federal government ramps up its immigration crackdown in the state. The Treasury Department has ordered banks and businesses that people use to wire money to relatives abroad to scrutinize transactions. Bessent spoke to reporters during a Friday visit to Minnesota. Somali leaders and allies including Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have vowed to protect the community. Bessent’s visit coincides with protests in Minneapolis after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot a woman in a residential neighborhood on Wednesday.
