British billionaire Joe Lewis is pardoned by Trump for insider trading and conspiracy crimes

British billionaire Joe Lewis, whose family trust owns the Tottenham Hotspur soccer club, has been pardoned by President Donald Trump. That action comes more than a year after Lewis was fined $5 million after pleading guilty to insider trading and conspiracy charges in New York. A White House official said Thursday that the 88-year-old Lewis had requested a pardon so he could receive medical treatment and visit his grandchildren and great grandchildren in the United States. Lewis pleaded guilty in January 2024, saying he knew that sharing nonpublic information about publicly traded companies was wrong. At the time, he was free on $300 million bail.
