How Americans’ top concerns compare to more than 100 other countries, according to Gallup
New international polling from Gallup shows that Americans are exceptionally anxious about their political system. About one-third of Americans rated politics and governance as the top issue facing their nation, behind only Taiwan — which faces the prospect of an invasion from China — and Slovenia. The economy and jobs are also far more likely to be among Americans’ top issues than the vast majority of more than 100 countries surveyed by the Gallup organization, with younger Americans much likelier to say this is a worry. It’s the latest of a wide range of surveys showing international and American anxiety about the economy and democratic governance. Economic anxiety is closely linked to the health of democratic systems, according to experts.
