David Stearns says he’s not blind to frustration of Mets fans but is certain overhaul is best

New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns has heard all the harsh criticism this offseason. But after saying goodbye to slugger Pete Alonso, star closer Edwin DĂ­az and two other Mets stalwarts before Christmas, a steadfast Stearns remains confident in his vision for 2026 and beyond. Stearns, who grew up a Mets fan in New York City, spoke Tuesday at a Citi Field luncheon with the team’s beat reporters. After letting some of the club’s most popular players leave this winter, a scorned Stearns says he’s even been hearing it from friends and family, at times.
