Royals face tough stadium decision of their own as Chiefs move to Kansas

The Chiefs are moving to a new $3 billion stadium in Kansas, leaving their Missouri home. Now, attention is on the Royals, who face a similar decision. Their lease at Kauffman Stadium ends in January 2031. Royals owner John Sherman prefers a downtown ballpark, but plans have faced political and community hurdles. Last year, Jackson County voters rejected a sales tax extension to fund the new stadium. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe wants to keep the Royals in Missouri. However, Kansas offers a bond package covering up to 70% of construction costs. The Royals are considering multiple sites, including Overland Park, Kansas.
