Florida executes a man convicted of killing a woman during a 1989 home invasion

A man convicted of killing a woman during a home invasion robbery has been executed in Florida. Mark Allen Geralds received a lethal injection Tuesday evening at Florida State Prison near Starke. He was sentenced to death for the fatal stabbing of Tressa Pettibone at her Panama City home on Feb. 1, 1989.  A statement from her family described her as “a wonderful person” who was dearly loved by many. Geralds was a carpenter who had previously done remodeling work at the home. Florida has put more people to death than any other state this year, with 18 executions to date in 2025 and one more planned next week.
