Sean Payton says Broncos QB Bo Nix has an ankle condition that made break inevitable

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix had a preexisting ankle condition that made a fracture inevitable, coach Sean Payton said at a news conference Tuesday. Nix broke his ankle during a playoff win against the Buffalo Bills. He underwent surgery last week in Birmingham, Alabama. Nix watched from a suite as backup Jarrett Stidham played in the AFC championship loss to the New England Patriots. Payton said the injury was bound to happen. Nix is expected to return in May. Despite previous ankle surgeries, Payton expressed confidence in Nix’s recovery and future performance.
