Payton had referred to Jacksonville as a “smaller market” team, which Coen turned into a rallying cry. The Jaguars have now won six straight games and are in the mix with Denver for the AFC’s top playoff seed. Payton said Monday that his comment was meant to highlight Jacksonville’s strong performance, not to disrespect them. But he said he admired Coen’s use of his comments as a rallying cry.
