A North Carolina judge has thrown out the convictions of four men in the death of basketball star Chris Paul’s grandfather over two decades ago. The decision follows a January hearing in Forsyth County. The men were convicted in 2004 or 2005 for the killing of 61-year-old Nathaniel Jones. Jones died from a heart attack outside his home after being tied up, beaten and robbed. The defendants were teenagers at the time of their arrests. The judge cited recanted testimony, poor legal representation and DNA evidence. State attorneys are considering an appeal. The Attorney General’s office has asked the state Court of Appeals to halt enforcement of the judge’s order for now.
