Sturgis tackles street, capital improvements, rally budgets for 2025

STURGIS, S.D. – The council Monday night also continued work on its 2025 budget.

Sturgis Public Works Director Rick Bush delivered budget updates on cemetery, engineering, parks, streets and street lighting, capital improvements, equipment replacement and the water, wastewater and sanitation funds.

Bush says engineering is one department where positions have been cut. Streets and street lighting are expected to see budget increases due to the increased cost of supplies.

Budgets for Event, Rally and sponsorship were also discussed. AS part of the 2025 budget, Rally and Sponsorship were merged into one budget. Combined the budget for the two in 2025 is $871,272. That is down from previous years in which budgeted totals averaged $1.5 million dollars.

The council anticipates holding a special meeting next Monday to put some finishing touches on the budget in hopes of holding a first reading on December 2.
