Sturgis Council begins work on 2025 budget

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council began putting together the 2025 budget in a special meeting last night.

The budget was the lone item on the agenda.

The budget process is starting over following the resignation of former Maor Angela Wilkerson last month. Interim Mayor Kevin Forrester is working with council on putting the budget together. They have until the end of the year to get it done.

Last night, the council discussed budgets for several categories. They included Administrative Services, Attorney, Auditorium, Buildings, City Administrator, Community Center, Custodial, Information Technology, Insurance, Library, Planning and Permitting, Recreation and Liquor Store.

The council will work on another round of budgets at their meeting next week with hopes of having a first reading in early December.

Due to financial woes, the budget is tight.
