RAPID CITY, S.D. – The dirt of the Summit Arena will transform into a stage of inclusion this weekend as Monument Health and Rodeo Rapid City host the annual Special Rodeo. Scheduled for Saturday, January 31st at 1pm at The Monument, the event provides a tailored rodeo experience for individuals with disabilities.
The festivities are designed to bring the spirit of the Black Hills Stock Show to all community members, regardless of physical or developmental challenges. Participants can engage in a variety of modified western activities, including stick horse barrel races, roping exercises, and simulated bucking events. Beyond the arena floor, the program incorporates creative art and music stations along with interactive therapy animals.
Volunteers play a critical role in the afternoon’s success. Student athletes from regional college rodeo teams will work alongside community members to provide 1-on-1 assistance, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for every participant.
Doors open and check-in begins at 1 p.m., with the main activities running from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The event is open to participants of all ages.
